Doctors Of Three Counties Met
Did you know? On November 1, 1825, physicians from Huntingdon, Mifflin and Centre counties met at the house of Alexander Ennis, then in Barree township, to consider organizing a medical society.
The meeting lasted two days. On the second day they organized the Union Medical Society, with Dr. John Henderson as president. Its constitution gave its object as the promotion and dissemination of medical and philosophical information, friendly feelings among medical men, and "the suppression of quackery."
The society met again at Lewistown in November 1826 and at Huntingdon in November 1827, where Dr. Ezra Doty of Mifflintown was elected president. Jordan's 1913 history says that Huntingdon meeting was the last record of its transactions.
