About
What this site is, and how it is put together.
An independent information page for Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania. It is not the county government's site, it does not speak for the Board of Commissioners, and it is not the county's tourism agency.
What is here
281 history stories filed under the borough or township they happened in, each carrying the sources under it. Every one of the 48 municipalities has its founding record quoted from the county histories. 105 photographs, each with its licence and credit. A directory of places to eat and visit drawn from the Visitors Bureau's own listings and OpenStreetMap, every row linked back to its record. County sports, a calendar of dated events, and the veterans' record as far as the printed histories carry it.
How it is checked
A story is not published as fact unless a source is listed under it. Where a story was written before its sources were recorded, the page says so in plain words rather than hiding it. Claims are checked against the county histories of 1847, 1876, 1883, 1897, 1909 and 1913, against the newspapers of the period, and against the Census and the Library of Congress where they apply. When a check changes the text, the page carries a note saying what was checked and what changed. Population, area and elevation figures come from the Census Bureau and the USGS, not from a scrape.
Corrections
If something here is wrong, send the correction with the source you have. Corrections are made on the page itself, with the evidence named.
Photographs
Only photographs in the public domain or under an open licence are reproduced, and the credit sits under each one. Where a photograph's credit is not a licence, the story cites and links it instead of copying it.
Money
This site runs on donations. It is free to read, carries no advertising and takes no county money. If it is worth something to you, please give. There is no advertising and no county money behind it.
