Orbisonia 1876 Trains Overflowed
For the nation's centennial, the close of the first century of American independence, the people of Huntingdon County held celebrations in different parts of the county, and Orbisonia was one of the places.
The Leader, Orbisonia's newspaper, described the day. At half past seven a flag 20 feet long was raised on the large pole in the diamond. The procession formed in the diamond and marched to the depot to meet those coming by train.
The trains arriving at 9:03 from Mount Union and Robertsdale were crowded. The train from Robertsdale carried two brass bands, one from Cassville and one from Broad Top City. Over 300 people got on the first train at Robertsdale, and it could not carry all the passengers from the stations along the way, so another section had to be run.
