Did you know? In the winter of 1871 a revival of great power was held in the Union Church at Spruce Creek under the preaching of the Rev. J. J. Coale, from Baltimore. Afterward a desire was expressed to form the converts into a Presbyterian church, and in April 1871 a committee named by the presbytery at Bellefonte organized the Lower Spruce Creek Church with 51 members.

That same year the congregation built its meeting house at Spruce Creek, on the Franklin Township side, on a lot of ground donated by Edward B. Isett. Africa's 1883 county history describes it as an attractive brick costing six thousand dollars.

It was built by a man named Baker, of Alexandria. He was run over by the railroad cars at Spruce Creek and killed before the house was completed.

In 1881 the congregation had 91 members, and its Sunday school had 60.
