Bouquet Held Land Near Broad Top

Did you know? On September 20, 1762, Colonel Henry Bouquet received four warrants for land in what is now Tod township, in the Trough Creek valley. Africa's 1883 county history lists three more warrants granted to him, dated February 14, 1763.

On August 25 and 26, 1767, Richard Tea, deputy surveyor of the southern district of the county, surveyed or caused to be surveyed the tracts under those warrants, near the base of Broad Top Mountain in what Africa calls Plank Cabin Valley. Together they came to nearly 1,500 acres.

By then Bouquet was dead. Africa notes that he died between May 1765 and July 1767. By 1883 the tracts were known as the Powel and Haldeman lands.
