State Game Lands 131

Not confirmed open this year

A 309-acre State Game Land in Warriors Mark Township, Huntingdon County, run by the Pennsylvania Game Commission for wildlife habitat, hunting and trapping.

State Game Lands 131 is a 309-acre tract in Warriors Mark Township, Huntingdon County, on the northwest edge of the Appalachian Mountain section of the Ridge and Valley. The cover is primarily mixed oak and northern hardwood, with a high knob reaching 1,410 feet.

The Game Commission's map lists white-tailed deer, eastern wild turkey and gray squirrel as game hunted here, with coyote and raccoon trapped. It also lists hiking, mushroom and berry picking, bird watching, dog training and horse riding. The Commission's January 2014 map shows that vehicle access is possible from SR 4013 by Butternut Road, with one designated parking area. The land has no streams, but nearby drainages feed the Little Juniata River, which the map calls an important trout stream.

The Commission says its game lands exist to manage wildlife habitat and provide hunting and trapping, with other recreation permitted under its regulations. The map dates from 2013 and 2014, and its Mapping Center shows season road locations.

Upper Old School Park is a township park in Warriors Mark, on the former site of the community's elementary school. Warriors Mark Township's supervisors have worked on the grounds over the years. The Huntingdon Daily News reported in 2024 on updates to the baseball fields and a walking trail, and on plans for a pavilion.

Over Memorial Day weekend in 2024, Warriors Mark Scout Troop 104 raked mulch, and local volunteers helped plant a butterfly garden. The garden drew monarch butterflies through the 2025 season, and it hosted the last migrating generation of that year.

On Oct. 21, 2026, a Liberty Tree donated by former Pennsylvania Secretary of Agriculture Samuel Hayes Jr. was planted at the park as part of America250 celebrations. The Huntingdon Daily News reported that the tree was planted next to the park's pavilion.
