Corbin's Island Recreation Area

Not confirmed open this year

Raystown Lake access area on the Raystown Branch of the Juniata River near Huntingdon, with a boat ramp and a group picnic shelter.

Corbin's Island is a recreation area on the Raystown Branch of the Juniata River. The recreation.gov listing for its picnic shelter places it at the northern end of Raystown Lake, just downstream from the Raystown Dam. From Huntingdon, the listing gives Route 22 east, then Point Road for about 6.3 miles.

The site has a boat ramp that the listing says suits small fishing boats, kayaks, canoes and tubes. The listing describes one group shelter with about 10 tables that holds up to 80 people. The shelter has no potable water, and vault restrooms sit about 75 yards away. When the shelter is not reserved, it is first come, first served.

The Huntingdon County Visitors Bureau's April 2021 blog post says other picnic shelters can be rented at Corbin's Island. The shelter listing prints hours of 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. The listing does not print a fee or season dates.

Hawn's Overlook

Not confirmed open this year

A lake overlook at the northern end of Raystown Lake, reached by a short gravel walk from a parking lot near Huntingdon.

Hawn's Overlook is a lookout at the northern end of Raystown Lake, about ten minutes from Huntingdon according to Uncovering PA. It sits at the end of a road that ends in a large gravel lot, which it shares with Ridenour Overlook. Ridenour sits beside the lot and looks north toward the dam.

From the lot, a gravel path of about 300 yards runs through forest and drops about 50 feet to the overlook. There is a stone-pillar fence, an information sign and one bench. The view faces south and southwest across the lake, and Uncovering PA says it suits sunset views.

The Huntingdon County Visitors Bureau lists the hours as dawn to dusk, year round. Uncovering PA says no opening time is listed and that the area closes shortly after sunset. The writer understands the road gate closes in winter when conditions are unsafe, and thinks the path is likely wheelchair accessible.

Raystown Dam Pagoda

Not confirmed open this year

A pavilion on top of Raystown Dam near Huntingdon, looking over the lake and spillway, listed with hours dawn to dusk.

The Pagoda is a pavilion on top of Raystown Dam, at 12000 Raystown Dam Road in Huntingdon. The Huntingdon County Visitors Bureau says visitors can see the dam, the spillway and the lake from it, and may spot one of the lake's bald eagles. The Daily News describes the spillway area below the dam as a vantage point for spillway releases and downstream wildlife.

The Daily News calls the Pagoda the site of weddings, photos and sightseeing. Its October 2024 notice about a woodwind concert there said parking is limited to 40 spaces, so carpooling is recommended.

The Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District, scheduled hour-long free dam tours from the pagoda overlook for June, July and August 2024, with Park Rangers as guides. The bureau lists the hours as dawn to dusk, year round.

Ridenour Overlook

A lookout over the northern end of Raystown Lake and its dam, reached by Henderson Overlook Road near Huntingdon.

Ridenour Overlook is a lookout at the northern end of Raystown Lake, reached by Henderson Overlook Road near Huntingdon. The Huntingdon County Visitors Bureau says it provides a view of the 225-foot-high dam. Visitors park in a gravel lot that also serves Hawn's Overlook, and the lookout is a few steps from the car.

Jim Cheney of Uncovering PA describes the view as facing north and northeast, over the dam and the northern end of the lake, more than 400 feet below. He says the view is especially great at sunrise, and that if you are lucky you may see it above fog that has settled on the lake. He writes that it is fully accessible for wheelchairs.

The bureau lists the hours as Dawn to Dusk. Cheney writes that the area closes shortly after sunset. His understanding is that the access road is not maintained in winter, and the gate closes when road conditions make it unsafe. From the lot, he recommends a 300-yard gravel walk to Hawn's Overlook.

Snyder's Run Boat Launch

Not confirmed open this year

A public boat launch on Raystown Lake near McConnellstown, one of seven public launches on the lake.

Snyder's Run is a public boat launch on Raystown Lake near McConnellstown. The Huntingdon County Visitors Bureau lists it among seven public launches on the lake, with Seven Points, Aitch, James Creek, Tatman Run, Shy Beaver and Weaver Falls. The bureau's 2021 blog says the launches other than Seven Points are for motorized boats. How's Your River, a Penn State access directory, classes the site as a boat ramp.

The Army Corps planned a controlled drawdown of Raystown Lake from Friday, Oct. 23, 2026, lowering the lake from 786 feet to a target of 778 feet. The Daily News reported on Oct. 16, 2026 that Snyder's Run was expected to stay open through the drawdown. The same report expects Seven Points, Aitch, Tatman Run and Weaver Falls to close after Nov. 11, while James Creek and Shy Beaver stay open.
