Sunny Ridge Restaurant

Not confirmed open this year

Restaurant on Croghan Pike (Route 522) near Shade Gap, damaged by fire in August 2015; no report read shows it open since.

Sunny Ridge Restaurant was on Croghan Pike (Route 522) between Shade Gap and Burnt Cabins, in Dublin Township. The Huntingdon Daily News reported in June 2015 that it had closed in 2013, then reopened in May 2014 under new owners. It had been known for its weekend buffets.

On Sunday night, August 16, 2015, a fire of undetermined origin damaged the kitchen. The Daily News reported that the restaurant had closed for the evening and no one was in the building. That article gives the address as 24609 Croghan Pike, and a 2015 year-in-review lists the fire too.

Restaurant Guru marks that listing permanently closed and carries a visitor note saying it closed due to fire. The only hours found date from June 2015 and are not shown.

Harper’s Memorial Park

Not confirmed open this year

A park along Neelyton Road in Shade Gap, where the Shade Gap Area Volunteer Fire Company hosts its annual picnic.

Harper’s Memorial Park sits along Neelyton Road in Shade Gap. The Shade Gap Area Volunteer Fire Company hosts the Shade Gap Picnic there. The 2026 picnic, the 143rd, was scheduled for Sunday, July 26, through Saturday, Aug. 1. The fire company says it works hard each year to put together a show for the community.

The 2026 Shade Gap Fire Princess was crowned at the park on Wednesday, July 29, during the picnic week. The Daily News also reported a highway dedication at the park in May for FBI special agent Terry Anderson. Anderson was killed in 1966 while searching for a girl kidnapped after getting off a school bus.

The Daily News says parking and admission were free throughout the picnic week, and that the Aug. 1 demolition derby charged admission. The three Daily News articles cited here and the OpenStreetMap record give no hours for the park itself, and none of them says whether it is open to visitors outside these events.
