On a September evening in 1915, several hundred people in Mount Union joined a demonstration for equal suffrage. A feature of the evening was an automobile parade. The Harrisburg Telegraph said the cars carried "many of the fair sex of the town," and every one of them was decorated with streamers and pennants.

After the parade came several short addresses. Then forty young women sold copies of a local paper, at prices starting at 5 cents.

That November a woman suffrage amendment went before the voters and lost in Pennsylvania, as it did in New York and Massachusetts. The Telegraph's county tally listed Huntingdon County among the counties the suffragists lost. The committee that had organized the September parade in Mount Union was Mrs. Ira Cassady, Mrs. D. E. Rummel and Miss Ann Ewing.
