The Trojans' 10-0 Season of 1993

When the Mount Union Trojans beat Penns Valley 41 to 12 to finish the 2014 regular season 10-0, The Daily News of Huntingdon looked back 21 years. The paper called it "the second 10-0 undefeated season in Trojan history" and named 1993 as the one before it.

The 1993 season ended in the District 6 Class AA final, where Forest Hills beat Mount Union 32 to 7. The same two schools had met in the final the year before, and Forest Hills won that one 26 to 21. Those scores come from a list of champions on the District 6 website, which shows Forest Hills winning the Class AA title each year from 1991 through 1994.

Forest Hills turned up again in November 2013, when the Rangers beat the Trojans 14 to 13 in a district quarterfinal, and The Daily News noted that they had also ended Mount Union's postseason in 1992 and 1993. The 2014 team, like the 1993 team, went as far as the district final, and lost it to Tyrone 35 to 21.

Checked against the record. We checked this story against the sources listed here. The Daily News pieces are on the paper's website, where the opening of each article is open to everyone and the rest is for subscribers, so we read only those openings. The scores for the 1992, 1993 and 2014 finals come from the list of champions on the District 6 website, which names no coaches. The paper's 2013 report backs up the Forest Hills losses in 1992 and 1993. The count of 10-0 seasons is the paper's, made in 2014, and we have not seen a full record of the program. We also have not seen game reports from 1993, the school's record book or a list of its coaches, so this story says nothing about the head coach's years, record or who coached the 1992 team. A Daily News report of May 26, 1978, on the building of the school track is one we have not been able to read, so that work is left out for now.
