Peduzzi's Entrance Tile

Step into Peduzzi's and look down. The name is set in tile at the doorway.

T. C. Peduzzi did not come here for the brick. Welch's 1909 account has him born in Lombardy in 1867, a stone mason who worked five years through the Swiss cantons and four in France, reaching America in 1890 and going west to Montana and Washington. The first brick plant in this town was not built until 1899.

He ended up the town's confectioner, and the tile is still in the floor.

Checked against the record. A GENERALISATION THE RECORD CONTRADICTS FOR THE NAMED FAMILY. The page said “Italian families like the Peduzzis and Melonis came for the brick work”. For the Peduzzis that is not what happened. Welch has T. C. Peduzzi reaching America in 1890 and going to Montana and Washington. The W. H. Haws plant, the first brick works in Mount Union, was not built until 1899, nine years later, and he was a stone mason by trade rather than a brick worker. The broader statement may well hold for other Italian families in this town, and this page is no longer the place it is asserted from: a claim about why a whole community came needs its own source, not one family's doorway. The Meloni half is untouched here because nothing opened settles it either way. It is neither confirmed nor refuted, and it is no longer stated as though the Peduzzi record supports it.
