Mount Union borough

A Mount Union street in 1907, dirt road, board sidewalks, and a town in the middle of an explosion. The brickyards were hiring every hand they could find, and the population tripled from 1,086 in 1900 to 3,338 by 1910, on figures Jordan's 1913 history of the valley reports directly.

  1. John W. Jordan, ed., History of the Juniata Valley and Its People (1913), on Mount Union: “in 1910 reported a population of 3,338. In 1900 the population was 1,086, and in 1890 it was 810.” The 1900 and 1910 figures in this post are confirmed word for word.
  2. J. Simpson Africa, History of Huntingdon and Blair Counties (1883), on Mount Union in 1882: “In 1880 the population of Mount Union was 764, and in 1882 it was estimated at 800.” Extends the series back two decades before the brick era.
